Pride and Prejudice
By Jon Jory
Based on the novel by Jane Austen

Directed by Jens Blegaa

The Copenhagen Theatre Circle proudly presents Pride and Prejudice, the classic Jane Austen novel reimagined for the stage by Jon Jory.

When the independent-minded Elizabeth Bennet meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr Darcy, she finds him arrogant and conceited. Upon discovering that he has sabotaged the relationship between her sister Jane and his friend Mr Bingley, Elizabeth is determined to dislike him more than ever. But nothing is as it seems and in the romantic entanglements that follow, everyone’s life is turned upside down.

Originally published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has lost none of its appeal and its themes still ring true with modern audiences. Jane Austen referred to the novel as her ‘own darling child’ and considered Elizabeth Bennet her favorite heroine.

Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) is also the author of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815), Persuasion and Northanger Abbey (both published after her death). Her novels have delighted two centuries of readers and reveal the manners and societal constraints of Georgian England. She is regarded as a grand master of observation and her stories are told with timeless wit and insight. Although she never married, her understanding of love, and love that was lost, is evident throughout her work. Her novels have been adapted into television series, feature films, radio plays and stage dramas.

This production is directed by Jens Blegaa, a CTC veteran who has previously directed the CTC’s productions of The Importance of Being Earnest and Beyond Therapy.
