OLD TIMES by HAROLD PINTER
Sensual, haunting & darkly funny.

SUE HANSEN STYLES, IAN BURNS & ANGELA HEATH-LARSEN.
DIRECTOR: BARRY McKENNA

Harold Pinter who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature is a
Master at conveying the thrill, the mystery and the destructive force of desire.

The action is set in the home of Deeley, a filmmaker, and his wife, Kate, a couple who have been married for 20 years. Their world is invaded by a third party, Anna, who used to share a room with Kate when they were young secretaries in bohemian London, and who has now come to visit.

Elegy to vanished pubs and familiar songs.
You might look back on your student-days with rose-tinted glasses: The fun and the freedom you and your friends had. The parties you went to. The music you listened to. The films you watched together. The clothes you wore and readily removed as you explored relationships with your fellow students and then colleagues.

The reminiscing in OLD TIMES soon becomes a dangerous game. What emerges through the haze of gossip and drinks, is that Kate is an unattainable figure to whom the two others lay claim; and that in talking over the old times they are reactivating a rivalry that has lain dormant since their youth.

This piece becomes a battle for the possession of Kate - (Anna loves her every bit as much as her husband). Deeley finds himself excluded from Anna's accounts of the early life she shared with his wife, but are her memories reliable, or is she making them up simply to infuriate her friend's husband? As Anna declares, in the plays key lines:

"There are some things one remembers even though they may never have happened".

The action lasts approximately 80 minutes without an interval.

It is a brilliant, enigmatic masterpiece and one of Pinter's finest.
